It all started in graduate school. When I walked into my criminal justice class. I did not know exactly what I wanted to do with myself. I knew I wanted to help people and further my education, but I did not know where my career path was heading. Once we discussed the issues of domestic violence and I had to prepare a 20-page paper on Intimate Partner Violence, I found that I (like most young women) was ignorant to the subject. As a matter of fact, the issue of domestic violence did not really bother me. However, once my research was prepared I realized that the number of victims were significantly high. It opened my eyes. This was exactly going on around me for years. See, intimate partner violence does not just have to be physical. It can be emotional and/or financial.
What really motivated me was someone who I am very fond of to tell me that she had experienced an abusive relationship. I cannot even imagine a person like her, especially with her demeanor go through such a situation. It had touched her that I was actually discussing the issue. To make a long story short, everyone will not have a chance to go to college. It is my responsibility to get the information out to my community. I can go to school and get all the education in the world, but if I do not give back, I feel as though I have done nothing. I thank everyone for all his or her love and support.
I'm walking out here on faith, come walk with me.
love is love
